Competitions & Rule ChangesAt the AGM we did not have much time to debate rules and rule changes. Let's debate it here!!!
What rules / rule changes would people like to see?
How do you want competitons organised???

Rob.

Projected Images CompetitionWhy, in the 'Projected Images' competition will there be no points awarded for anything.
Last year we had a test run, so obviously no points, but surely this year there should be.
Also if there are no points then can you use the same image in another comp this year, as a slide or print.
If you can't and there are no points then most will not put their best shots in I would of thought.

Still "nil" pointsWhat would points contribute to? Slides or Prints??
I suppose Slide would be most appropriate.
I would like to see more "Projected" competitions anyway. These would be a 3rd catagory of competition.
I would drop all the "Majors" apart from Landscape and Natural History. With the spare capacity I would add more projected competitions and more open or themed slide and print competitions.
I think this year it will still be "nil" points.

Rob.

You could have points for whatever you are entering, either slides or prints.
Why bother getting a Judge (£££££) in if it's just for fun?

Slides or PrintsMick,
Nobody is entering Prints!! Some are entering slides and some digital files.
You can't have the digital files contributing to the print results and I reckon that the slide boys would get emotional if the digital images contributed to the slide tables.
If it was to be anything it would have to be the slide tables in my view.

Rob.

Hi
My view is that as this is an Open Projected Images competition then points should be awarded. As slide competitions are Projected then it makes sense that the points should be awarded in the slide category.
It doesn't make sense for us to pay for a judge for this competition if it is just for fun.
We need to find a way to ensure that the Slide workers don't feel threatened by the Digital workers.

Yes you're right it's an Open !!Images!! comp not an open 'slide' comp therefore I see no reason why anyone entering the Print comp's can't enter this comp with a digital image and put any points toward the their Prints tally.
I hav'nt spoken to any slide peeps who feel threatened by digital peeps and even if they were they would be less threatened by anyone entering this comp and using it for Print points.
Also, it would be a good comp if every one and all could enter.......don't you think.

Digital PrintsBut don't we then need to get the views of print workers who will not enter this comp. They may feel this is unfair to them!!!

Rob.

Yes, You're right, never thought of that.
But I'm sure they would all like to enter as it's so easy, in fact easier than trying to get a print look good.

Don't disagreeDon't disagree. If I win the OP competition can I put my points into both the print and the slide tables, cus I normally enter both print and slides.

Rob.

Can I comment by stating the obvious! Digital images can easily be made into prints or slides. Slides can easily be made into digital images or prints. Prints can easily be made into digital images or slides. Why then are we arguing about where the points should go? It is obvious to me that there should be just one league table of points.
While I have my fingers on the keyboard - and this thread started by asking about rule changes - one rule I have never understood is why you have to "qualify" to be able to enter a major competition. Surely, being a fully paid-up member should be enough to enter any competition.

MajorsBrian,
Good points (forgive the pun!!)
My view is why have the "Majors". I would like to see just two - Landscape and Natural History. The rest are a bit of a nonsense.
We can give the spare space over to more "projected" and themed competitions.

Rob.

In my ignorance is it necessary for images be provided as full size tiffs or do they need to be reduced, and 4 images to a CD is a bit of a waste could we discuss alternative ways of entering pics

Chris, you can submit your images on a Rewriteable cd then have it back and use it again.
You need to resize them and save as a jpeg.
I can email you instructions on how to resize if you wish.

If anyone is entering both slides and print comp's then you simply nominate where you want the points to go before the comp ...if you get any.
Why do I get the feeling I'm

Chill OutMick,
I think as a committee, we agree this needs sorting out along with the competitions generally.
We will be discussing competition structure at the next committee meeting with the intention of coming back to the members with some options after Christmas.
Take a chill pill......

Rob.

Only need half a pill now as you can use whatever images you enter in other comp's this year..........as a print or slide.
I know that but does anyone else????????????

ProjectedMick,
I'm not sure that is official!!
I agree with you that if the OP competiiton does not score, then the "no 2 images in the same year" should not apply. I don't think this view has offical sanction though????
Time to bash your head again!!!!!!!!!!

Rob.

Well, I asked Mr & Mrs Graham on Thursday night and they both said ''yes'' it's ok.
So, where now?
|
admin
|
Probably OK then!!!!Mick,
Probably OK then!!!!
Thinking about it, if you interpret the rules then Projected Images is not mentioned in the rules and the rule about not using a slide in print form in another competition wouldn't apply.

Rob.
